On May 21, 2026, Eduard Abashiia, a clinical psychologist at the Mental Health Center of the Municipal Non-Profit Enterprise "City Clinical Hospital No. 6" of the Dnipro City Council, a legal scholar, and a lecturer at the Department of Psychology of the Dnipro Institute of PrAT HEI "IAPM", took part in the training "Trauma-Informed Communication in Working with Veterans and Their Families." The event was organized for representatives of local authorities and communities of the Dnipropetrovsk region who interact with veterans, their family members, and families of prisoners of war or deceased military personnel, as well as those involved in planning or implementing local support programs.

Training Objectives:

  • to understand how combat experience affects the behavior of veterans;
  • to learn how to de-escalate tension in difficult conversations;
  • to master the tools of active listening and non-violent communication;
  • to practice the psychological first aid protocol;
  • to learn how to support oneself after challenging interactions.

Trainers and Event Organizers:
Viktoriia Sukhareva – PhD, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, psychologist specializing in CBT, Schema Therapy, and EMDR, member of the UAACBT and EMDR associations.
Olesia Olkhovyk – psychologist specializing in CBT, Schema Therapy, and EMDR.
Hanna Bulatova – representative of the Czech humanitarian organization "People in Need", Senior Specialist of the Psychosocial Support Program.

The event took place in Dnipro, at the GRAND HOTEL UKRAINE. The training was conducted as part of the "Pathways to Sustainable Development and Success" project, implemented by the NGO "PPR Vilnyi Vybir" with financial support from the Czech people and in cooperation with the humanitarian organization "People in Need".
